This is my 5 star review for T.W.M Ashford’s brand new book Checking Out.
The book is self published and released 6th June
Three years after the death of his wife and son, George Webber checks into Le Petit Monde in London to spend his last night in luxury. Everything that matters to him is gone, save for what’s in the briefcase he keeps clutched at his side. But when that briefcase is stolen, George discovers there are a great many more worlds than his own. If he wants it back, he’ll have to postpone checking out and travel farther than he’d ever thought possible.
Follow George and his hotel concierge as they skip across the multiverse in this enchanting and peculiar sci-fi fantasy from British author T.W.M. Ashford.
This was the first book of Tom’s I gave read so wasn’t sure how the book would go, but I shouldn’t have worried as it was a brilliant read and I loved it.
The story starts with a man called George booking into a very expensive hotel for the anniversary of the death of his wife and son. The story then gets a bit strange as he goes for dinner and when he returns back to his room someone is in there already and has stolen his briefcase. He chases the man who goes into a different room. George then gets the concierge to help him get it back but when they open the door the man ran into there is only a woman there. This is where things go bizarre as George then finds out the hotel is actually a stop point for multiverse travellers who go between each universe with the help of keys unlocking special doors. George and the concierge then Chase the thief through different universes trying to get his briefcase back.
I thought the story was well written and a very easy read, I read it in two sittings and couldn’t put it down. It is a funny story and the character’s are very believable. Even though they are going to all the trouble just for a briefcase, as the story progresses you find out why it is so important to George.
At the end of the story I felt it could lead easily onto a sequel with George exploring the different multiverses some more and I really hope Tom does write some more and create a series as I would definitely read them.

About The Author
T.W.M. (Tom) Ashford writes fantasy novels, with a splash of literary fiction, horror and thriller influences chucked in for good measure. He currently resides in London, England, because that’s where a writer should be and because he just loves extortionate property prices.
His first novel, Everything Ends, was released to great response and is exclusive to Amazon Kindle (and now available in paperback!), and he’s just released Blackwater: Vol. One, a Lovecraft-influenced supernatural thriller and the first in a planned trilogy. He also releases short stories under the mantel of ‘Shorts’ – his first two can be downloaded for freeby going to his website
